Hallelujah (some might say! 😇). St Wilfrid’s Church, Melling in Lancashire has been saved from closure by the discovery of a £30,000 hoard of gold coins hidden under the altar! Brilliant. I’m so pleased for them. Truly. The coins aren’t ancient, but were produced by the Royal Mint in 1999. How much more exciting had the coins been ancient! But gold is gold, right?
I do wish I could make such a discovery. So I won’t mention that the only things I ever find when I’m prodding around with a trowel are clay pipes, bottle tops, ring pulls and slightly annoyed earthworms! Ugh!
