At 7.30 p.m. BST on Thursday 22 October, we shall be welcoming Annette Carson to present her brand new, illustrated Zoom talk ‘The Eyewitness Reporter – Domenico Mancini’. Most Ricardians first encountered Mancini in the 1930s edition by Armstrong, who told the press it was a vindication of Thomas More, having weighted his translation in that direction. For 85 years it was mainly known for two or three famous passages, with the rest more or less ignored. Annette’s new 2021 paperback translation removed that weighting and applied modern research to what Mancini’s fact-filled report really said. Her interpretation of the Stony Stratford incident immediately cast new light on a thorny issue. In this new talk she illuminates some of Mancini’s lesser-known revelations, including many insights about the Woodvilles, and how Richard was ‘wronged by Edward IV’s relatives by marriage’.
Annette always explores her subjects in great detail, using logic and research to explain her conclusions and her talks are always well received, so don’t forget to book!
