“….Sir Thomas Markenfield was appointed High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1484 and fought on the side of Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth….”

When it comes to the great old houses/castles of Britain, a lot have links to Richard III. Markenfield Hall in Yorkshire is one such. The Sir Thomas Marlenfeld in the quote above fought alongside Richard at Bosworth, as you’ll read at the link in the caption of the above image.

Another Markenfield, Sir Thomas’s brother Robert, was involved in the mystery at Coldridge, and whether or not one John Evans was actually Edward V, the elder of Richard III’s two supposedly murdered nephews. (I believe he was!) You can read about this at Markenfield Hall’s own blog, https://tinyurl.com/yc83d3wn . And also at https://tinyurl.com/mw9w3c2h.

The Markenfields and their beautiful hall have appeared on this blog before, as you can read here https://tinyurl.com/3z8vtejz and here https://tinyurl.com/yvymya83. And you can read more about the family in this article from Ripon Cathedral: https://riponcathedral.org.uk/the-markenfield-family/.
