St Mary’s Parish Church, Barnard Castle

The Northern Dales Richard III Group, alongside St Mary’s Parish Church Barnard Castle, invite you to rally to the boar and help restore and save a precious C15th window which carries Richard III’s boar insignia carved in stone on its exterior.

The window’s stonework will be carefully restored; the boar stone will be moved inside the church to a position equivalent to its outside location, and a newly-carved boar stone will take its place outside.

The window will be preserved for future generations and will highlight the royal heritage of Richard III’s patronage of St Mary’s both inside and out.

If you would like to know more, St Mary’s church website has a page all about the appeal and a button link to a DONATION page. https://www.stmarysbarnardcastle.org.uk/rally-to-the-boar-appeal/

The NDRIIIG have already given £5000 to this appeal and will be looking to donate further across this year (after a busy Study Day upcoming in April). Whether you are interested in history, churches, stonemasonry or specifically in Richard of Gloucester/Richard III, your donation to this important piece of Ricardian history will be much appreciated! Thank you! 😊
