“….The [former Cistercian] Abbey at Coggeshall isn’t your average home — even by the standards of the sort of homes featured in Country Life. It’s a historic former monastic complex of immense character and charm set in 25 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens on the banks of the River Blackwater, less than a mile from the centre of the medieval market town of Coggeshall and 10 miles from Colchester….”
Wow! And all for only £2.5 million! For an abbey home that dates from 1162? Well, in the great scheme of things this seems to be what is termed a ‘snip’. A beautiful snip at that.
You can read all about it here (which includes another link here to a second site with more information and pictures).

If ever a property absolutely reeks with the medieval past we love so much, this is it. Albeit with every convenience of the present, of course. If you’d like to read some of its actual history, go to this link British History Online.

In the meantime….I wish my piggybank contained that £2.5 million. But, alas, his tummy’s nowhere near full enough!
