Historian Lindsay Mullaney has doubts over the claims a king is buried underneath the spot she’s standing. (Image from link below)

Oh dear, now we have controversy bubbling about another king under a car park. We know that Philippa Langley is pursuing the possibility that Henry I lies under the car park of the former Reading Gaol (which itself stood on the site of Reading Abbey, where Henry I was buried at the high altar).

It’s not a new theory of course, because Ms Langley’s activities on the matter have been known since 2015, see here. And I have already written about it, although not about the latest development.

It seems that local experts have now come forward (see here) to cast doubt on the theory. Oh well, once again only hard proof will decide the issue.

One thing though, I don’t think poor old Henry I will generate anywhere near the interest and passion that accompanied the discovery of Richard III’s remains.

We can only wait to see….
