I didn’t know how perilously close Shakespeare’s great work came to complete and utter obscurity, if not to say oblivion. But it seems that this year is the First Folio’s 400th anniversary. And if you read here 400 Years of the First Folio (shakespeare.org.uk) you’ll find the story of its miraculous survival….although I imagine the ghost of King Richard III would have been happy to see the extinction of every word!
And if you go to this site 400 Years of the First Folio (shakespeare.org.uk) you’ll learn there is an exhibition of those items of the First Folio that are here in the UK. The exhibition has actually been open since 25 March this year, but it continues until 5 November. You don’t have to book to get in, so if you wish to see it you’re certain of admission.
