Well, once again the archaeologists of Leicester University are busy with their gleaming trowels. This time they’re scratching and scraping the ground beneath the Highcross Shopping Centre in search of Leicester’s Roman and medieval past. See here.

I wish them well, truly, but can’t help noticing that complete omission of any mention of the finding of Richard III’s remains at Greyfriars. It seems to me that until now the Leicester University archaeological department has rushed to claim all the credit for this momentous discovery. Suddenly they’ve gone quiet.

Far be it from me to speculate, of course….but since splendid The Lost King film, and its telling of the actual facts about who did the real discovering (and paying for) that important dig, might they be a teensy bit nervous about blowing their own trumpets very loud to make sure of drowning everyone else’s trumpet….?
