With a guide price of £4 million there will be an auction of this large edifice (the Grey Friars Building) that stands right next to where the remains of Richard III were found. The auction is to be on Wednesday, February 15.

It’s Grade II listed, but not only because of its proximity to where Richard was found. It’s also one of those anonymous buildings that I associate with banks, insurance companies and lesser government departments. Not to my taste at all, but then my preferences stop at around the 17th centuries. Most of all I like medieval, so this building is on a loser with me from the outset. Poor thing. Not even its location would lure me.

According to this article Historic Leicester building next to site of King Richard III discovery is up for sale – Leicestershire Live (leicestermercury.co.uk)  “….It is located in the heart of the Old Town area, on the corner of Friar Lane and Grey Friars, and near to Leicester Cathedral, Leicester Guildhall, Wygston’s House, St Martins House and the King Richard III Visitor Centre – where visitors can experience the history of the battle of Bosworth and see the exact place where Richard’s remains were buried, which is now a glass-floored, contemplative space….”

Also according to the above article the accompanying car park is THE car park: “….While the Grey Friars building may have a number of uses, subject to planning permission being granted, the car park itself is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. That means it is ‘a nationally important archaeological site that has protection against unauthorised change’….”

So, if anything with a connection to Richard is your guiding light, then start bidding!
