Richard’s marriage was shrouded in mystery….?

Richard, Anne and their only son – from the Rous Roll

OK, I was reading this article with some interest, especially when Anne Neville’s name appeared, but then I was stopped in my tracks by the following:

“….Anne was the daughter of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, and who later became Richard III’s queen. Their relationship – said to suffer after the death of their son Edward – remains shrouded in mystery….”

Um, who said the relationship began to suffer? They no longer had an heir for Richard, that’s true, but this doesn’t mean that the relationship suffered. Or that it was shrouded in mystery. Richard remained devoted to her to the end. So, bah, humbug, to the Leamington Observer!

    Probably based on the fact he was advised not to share her bed because of her illness (allegedly) ?

    Yes, I would think this is based upon the Crowland Chronicle which stated that he claimed he was forbidden to visit her bed bc of her illness, but the person reporting doesn’t believe this and says “why elaborate?” or something like that. The reporter of the CC, believe it or don’t, seems to feel that Richard had decided to pursue other options for marriage due to the fact that Anne was unlikely to produce another heir. It does seem like he was negotiating for the Portuguese match prior to her death so I do wonder what would have happened had Anne survived.

      As per my sons latest dna results he shares the same dna as King Richard iii, i laughed at the beginning because i was born in the Azores but since he was looking for a Portuguese match, I am very interested in finding more about it

    Let’s face it, what they don’t know they make up anyway. Or they add 2 and 2 together and make 9. All because these people are lazy and can’t be bothered doing any proper research.

      Nobody would have known about Richard’s Scoliosis. When dressed there would not have been the slightest hint of it. I know this as my daughter has Scoliosis, and when dressed there’s absolutely no way you can tell. It wouldn’t have been known about until he was stripped after he was killed in the battle

    I believe he was faithful . We know of the love affairs of his brother and mother. They grew up together. He rescued her from a bake shop his brother George put her in. She saw the real man not his disability. I think he treasured that fact.

      But no one even commented on his disability until years Later and they blew it up. He was popular and respected during his lifetime so I don’t think he needed to have one person who would “see past it.” I seriously doubt Cecily had an affair Though.
