Perhaps you know that Friday 13th came to be considered unlucky because of the Knights Templar.
The story goes: On the morning of Friday, October 13, 1307, King Philip IV. had many Templars arrested, including the order’s Grand Master, Jacques de Molay. In the days and weeks after that fateful Friday, more than 600 Templars were arrested.
But for Ricardians, there is another Friday 13th that is important and that is Friday 13th June 1483. This is the date that Lord Hastings was summarily executed by Richard, as was within his remit to do, in his role as High Constable of England.
It’s a controversial subject, but Annette Carson recently gave a very interesting talk that included an analysis of the reasons why this act occurred, and she has recently published a new book, Richard III Unspun, which explores this subject, as well as the incidents at Stony Stratford.
