My local group, the Mid-Anglia, recently held our AGM at the White Hart (Toby Carvery) in Colchester, and combined it with a lunch meeting and a couple of relevant presentations. It was very convivial and informative. The presentations were on St John’s Abbey, Colchester and Henry VII’s suspicious interest in it and the differences in the treatment of the nobility before and during the Wars of the Roses. I hope to post a summary of each shortly.
We had a good lunch (it’s a carvery, so most of us had that) and I was impressed that they had five different roasts including lamb! I treated myself to a dessert (I’m on a keto regime, so usually have to miss the sweets) as I couldn’t resist my first Christmas pudding of the year!
The group has grown since our current Chairman, Michael, took over and some of the people recruited have very useful skills. We now have a Members’ Secretary in Steve, several people who can research and/or give presentations, and a Trip Organiser in Moira. I think Stephen Lark, our late Chairman would be very pleased and proud!
