Yet again the suggestion circulates that King Charles is in favour of examining the contents of That Urn. Good for him, it’s long overdue for this mystery to be looked at again. Unfortunately, yet again a certain Tudorite lady is already distorting the facts.

“….Chief curator of Historic Royal Palaces, Tracy Borman, explained: ‘He [King Charles] has said he would like an investigation to go ahead, so that we can determine, once and for all, how the young royals died.’….” See https://tinyurl.com/y5zhhp45.

What? That’s a bit rich. She’s actually suggesting that King Charles believes the bones ARE those of Richard’s nephews, and that the cause of their death will be Richard III. Richard’s grubby pawprints will be all over them, of course, probably with a handwritten confession for good measure. Come on now, Ms Borman, I don’t think King Charles said any such thing. He wants to see the urn examined again with modern science, yes. But he knows as well as the rest of us that the human bones inside are most likely from the Roman period (although the animal bones in there with them will be 17th century, courtesy of King Charles II!) The bit about “how the young royals died” is Ms Borman’s input.

In view of all the documentary evidence recently unearthed by Philippa Langley’s Missing Princes Project, for Ms Borman to be constantly banging on with the old, old story composed by Richard’s foes in the 15th and 16th century, makes her opinion very unconvincing indeed. And, indeed, the same goes for all the historians who’ve repeated it ad infinitum over the centuries. In the 21st century its worse than ever because the only people who seem to be approached by TV companies are Tudor supporters. They aren’t going to tell the truth because they’ve been hard-wired to parrot what Henry VII wanted posterity to think.

Ms Borman may be Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces, and therefore of the Tower, but she cannot see into the past and know for certain that Richard III murdered and buried his nephews. She just wants you to think she can. For her it’s all cut and dried. Anyone would think she had a fine-tuned crystal ball. You know, one of those with “Hand Made by Henry VII” printed on the bottom.

Oh, I’d dearly like to be there when all that’s proved about That Urn is that it contains Roman remains and animal bones. I do hope the camera is squarely on her face. It will be worth the wait.

  2. I’m beginning to think that although Henry VeeOneOne may not have killed theboys, that he knew all along that they were alive and WITH his knowledge and partial cooperation… He NEEDED them to be THOUGHT to be dead – hence the ridiculous stories surrounding their “fate”. I think he knew that “John Evans” was safely stowed on the Marquis of Dorset’s land, living a secret quiet life under the radar, having come to a solemn and binding agreement with the new regime. And wasn’t there a story that the kitchen boy “Lambert” had become a falconer? Doesn’t that tie in with what we know of Evans?

And that it was less successful with the bolder, younger Prince, that Henry always knew young Richard of Shrewsbury was on the Continent and eventually with his Aunt Margaret of Burgundy. That “Perkin Warbeck”, after the failed invasion was finally under his control too and Henry tried to do a similar deal with him as with the older boy.

But Richard/Perkin wouldn’t quite play his game and agree to live quietly under a pseudonym. He was always going to be a problem, so the fake escape attempt scheme was set up and Richard/Perkin falling for the temptation of escape, was recaptured and executed, his face battered and unrecognisable. But if that was a common felon, who was to know? And still sets up the possibility that he did eventually fall in with Henry’s plan in return for a quiet life – as John Clements, a doctor, trained on the Continent? Neatly explaining Jack Laszlo’s theory too… Hmm – endlessly fascinating.

    1. There are so many “avenues” that might lead to the truth that it’s quite bewildering. Literally, anything is possible and anyone could have done it. Except Richard. I am quite certain that he didn’t see them as a threat to anything because he regarded them as proven to be illegitimate. And therefore barred from the throne. But baseborn or not, they were also his own flesh and blood, and he had the job of protecting them. He would NEVER murder his brother’s children. It would unthinkable for him. That is my honest opinion. I think it more likely that Edward IV would rid himself of awkward nephews and nieces than Richard.

Maybe Henry was dragged into a conspiracy to leave them alone, but it stretches credulity. Oh, I’ve written stories in which he IS party to it, but that’s me as a fiction writer. Whether he really did, I don’t know. Except that it isn’t impossible.

Ms Borman, of course, KNOWS Henry couldn’t POSSIBLY have done anything naughty, He was pure as the driven snow, like all the Tudors.

  3. Apologies – spelling! Jack Leslau (not Laszlo) was the name my brain had been trying to compute! We get there in the end.

    1. Should Charles III go ahead with this investigation Borman, and others with predetermined biases should not be part of the inquiry, forensic or evaluative.
    2. And if just one bone is determined by forensic examination to be biologically FEMALE, well, scrap the whole mythology of the “princes”
    3. whoever the motley jumble of bones belonged to (if DNA testing is even possible considering the contamination of their location with other refuse, etc) the results may tell us more about burial remains in the Tower over centuries, not specifically a narrow window (post 1485).
