There cannot be many Ricardians and general supporters of the Yorkist side in the Wars of the Roses who don’t know about the window discovered at St Matthew’s Church, Coldridge in Devon.

“….THE Edward V Window in the chantry of St Matthew’s Church at Coldridge is a focal point of the mystery that surrounds the involvement of Edward V, John Evans and Coldridge….In April 2024 it was removed and taken to the experts at Holywell Glass in Wells, Somerset for extensive restoration and conservation to ensure the preservation of this nationally and historically significant artefact….”

The above extract is from https://shorturl.at/QJeY3, which tells of the ceremony that is to take place at the church to commemorate the reinstatement of the newly conserved window. The Bishop of Exeter, the Right Reverend Dr Mike Harrison, will perform a Service of Re-Dedication for the Edward V Window in St Matthew’s Church on Saturday, 24 May at 10am. The service is free for all to attend. There will be refreshments in the village hall afterward.

An event and talks will follow but this event is by ticket only at £15 per person. The first talk will be at 11.15 a.m.  and will be The Tudor Lady, by Rosemary Griggs. Then there will be a talk by the historian, John Dike, who is pictured below. During lunch there will be music by Ian Churchward and The Legendary Ten Seconds, whose songs are well-known to Ricardians because many of them concern Richard III.

At 2.30 p.m. Philippa Langley MBE will give a talk. It has to be said that she has done more than most to improve the reputation and honour of Richard III, so I’m sure there will be a great many people attending to hear her. I must add that the late Doctor John Ashdown Hill was also key in clearing Richard’s name.

Tickets can be purchased at:  https://coldridgevillagehall.lemonbooking.com/events/10/details and for more information, please email: events@stmatthewscoldridge.church.
