Thomas Earl of Lancaster, died 22 March 1322, and Thomas of Lancaster, Duke of Clarence, died 22 March 1321 …

The former, the grandson of Henry III, was executed at Pontefract, having fought at Boroughbridge in opposition to Edward II and the Despensers.

The latter, the second son of Henry IV and great-great-great-nephew of his namesake, was killed at the battle of Bauge during the Hundred Years’ War. Had he lived for another two years, he would have been Regent, of England, France or both, to Henry VI, as his younger brothers (John of Bedford and Humphrey of Gloucester) were to share these roles.

[This was Stephen Lark’s/Super Blue’s final post for his blog, and it would have been published on his chosen date of 22 March. But circumstances demand that the blog must cease on 24 January, which is why I’ve rescheduled his final post for today. Viscountessw. 😢]
