I am sure you have all seen the famous triptych of Charles I – one front view and two profiles – and felt that he could have benefitted from two extra heads in real life, or admired the Wilton Diptych of Richard II and significant religious figures.

Now there is another triptych on the scene, featuring William II and being sold by the Tirelli family, the Italian descendants of Walter Tirel, who shot the fatal arrow in the New Forest during the last year of the eleventh century. The artwork, which resembles the Bayeux Tapestry in style, is presently in Austria but the family hope it can be displayed in Colchester, near where Tirel hid during his flight, or Scotland.
