Photo of Kincaid's book The History of King Richard the Third by George Buc
The New Edition

Following the new edition of Arthur Kincaid’s ‘The History of King Richard the Third’ by Sir George Buc, there have been several news items about it, including a TV clip from Dan Snow on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine Show.

Snow himself is enthusiastic about the work done by the Richard III Society members who helped to get it published, calling them ‘heroes’, but his fellow panellists are quite amazed that this evidence contradicts their previous view of Richard. They, of course, reflect the ignorant, traditionalist view of Richard that they were taught, one referring to him as being ‘known as the child murderer’, another surprised that ‘disinformation has been going on since the seventeenth century’ – well, it’s a lot longer than that! The third colleague admits the way she remembered that Richard ‘wasn’t a nice guy’ was by pronouncng his name the Irish way. I’m sure you can work out what this was, but here is the link, if you can’t: Click here

Hopefully, the publication of this book will help to dispel all these negative connotations and rehabilitate Richard’s reputation. At least these panellists might now think of Richard differently.
