We know that Sir Richard Pole, cousin of Henry VII, husband of Margaret, Countess of Salisbury, grandfather of Henry Pole the Younger and progenitor of the later Stafford and Hastings families, as his own male line was extinct by 1619, was an only son and that the identity of his paternal grandfather is unclear. It is quite well established, however, that he had a sister Eleanor, who married into the Verneys of Middle Claydon, Buckingham, not to be confused with the branch of Compton Verney in Warwickshire, who were prominent in the Civil War and to the present day, still living in Claydon House (below).

So which Ralph Verney did she marry and did she leave descendants? Sir Ralph, second son of a Lord Mayor of London, according to Wikipaedia, which doesn’t mention any children. The actual Lord Mayor, but no issue, according to Genealogics. A son (John) and a daughter (Margaret, who eventually had a grandchild of her own), according to Douglas Richardson et al on this discussion thread. Here is the Visitation of Hampshire [MS. Earl 1544, fo. B4\ 35.], giving Sir John Verney as her son.

Eleanor almost certainly wasn’t integral to the future of the Verney family but she was a valuable heiress and they rose after her arrival, establishing Claydon House by 1620.

In any case, here is Genealogics’ table of Geoffrey Pole I’s descendants, except for those by Henry Lord Montagu, Sir Arthur and Ursula Lady Stafford. Geoffrey Pole II’s line can be traced as far as 1701, but no further.
